six cylinder block plug question

Hi,

I just got a 65 Mustang with the 200 six in it. Well it threw a rod and I had it rebuilt at a shop. My question is about the hole on the driver's side of the block, near the front of the block. The hole is around an inch or so in diameter and there are two screw holes on either side of it. The shop gave me back the motor with this open. I have no idea what went there.

Maybe it takes a freeze plug. There is a pad just above it and the area around it is square.

Any idea where I can get the plug or cap?

Did your car originally use a road draft tube or a PCV valve? The road draft tube comes out of that hole in early models, in later PCV versions it had a plug in it.

It has a pcv on the valve cover. I was thinking it was for a road draft tube. You can see into the block. Thanks

Welcome, 67corvette427. Sounds like your significant other car has seven liters of porcupine headed machinery under a fibreglass hood. Well done!

(Regards the holes, maybee Ford was possibly trying a new method of pin hole surgery to replace broken conrods?)

Here's a road draught tube installed:



The later years just plugged the hole with a regular freeze plug. If you want to get fancy, you could fit a breather to the hole, and retain the PCV but with a non-vented oil cap. The filtered air drawn through the crankcase might enhance cooling of the motor slightly.
