hi guys,
i havedecided to put and injected six into a tc cortina, common i know but i still wanna give it a try. any way my question is, would i be better off getting an EBII XR6 engine with microtech ECU or gettin an XF 250 and doing a custom injection with triple webbers? i am considering the XF because i heard it will mount easier into the cortina, but i don't want to sacrifice performance. how hard would it be to hook up a custom injection kit? i can get a complete injection kit with tripple throttle bodies, 30lb injectors, fuel rail and everything else i need for $3,512.00. or i can get just the computer to go with the XR6 for $1,095.00, but then i have to buy the XR6 to get it from. i won't be doing this untill next year so i have plenty of time. i just want to start planning and start thinking about what sort of work i'm in for. much appreciated.

I know I crap on a bit (a lot!) but is there much wrong with an XF EFI setup or maybe an EB4.0?? These a cheap as chips and easier to pick up than dried cow poo.

go for the newer six even an ef one that is distributorless, wichever you get use the newer dual plane inlet manifold rather than the old log style one available at ypour local wreckers. ef motors are less likely to need a rebuild. with extracts and exhaust maybe a cam and light headwork. oh also do yyourself a favour, get and ems computer at $995 their the bomb. many more featurys that microtech and closed loop, ahhh economy. if you in melb give xtr pformance a call for the computer things , wade cams for hmmmmm reground cams or billet you can try ekw for the engine they sell aausie stuff too. jus my many cents

well, microtech in australia offer an injection concersion kit for a 6cyl for 3 grand the only thing that i have to supply by myself would be the inlet manifold. i thought this would be easier because i have heard that the xf engines are easier to drop in than the later model ones. [/quote]

simple, go the micro tec, use the tripple webber setup, with injection very nice, get the motor build by some one who knows 250's and u should easy see over 300 hp :> i got 290 and i only got one butter fly.

ps dont bother using the xf system there craptacular for a decent set up
this is a pik of mine i used an inject fuel only comp, worked engine big jectors

i dont get it why is everione so obsessed with using microtech. by the waaaay injection perfection make one hell of a beat sixthrottle manifold.

PP - what's this IP fanimold you're talking about? Got pics? And how much?

do microtech make the manifold as well? how much? how hard would it be for me to just modify an eb-el manifold? cutting it down and all that? i got a mig welder, an oxy welder and an ordinary stick welder and i know a guy who can use them :? so what do you reckon?

OK So over here in Kiwi land, we didn't get stuff all 6cyl Cortina's, But when I dropped the EF 6 into my XF it was as simple as using EA engine mounts (Matted the XF rails to the EF block perfectly)
IF the cortina was set up with the older 3.3 or 4.1 surely the mounts aren't different (Ford just doesn't normally do that!!!).
Why not stick with the factory ecu? Get it up and running standard first of all then get it chipped later when you get a big cam, headwork etc.
Actually thinging about it what about the new DOHC engine - that would look cool in a old cortina!!
Yes kiwi = MAD

ok nice one, thanks all. so where can i get this DOHC engine from? where can i find some specs on it? i didn't really think that running a factory ECU was really an option, won't there be some issues with the computer trying to run things that aren't there? i'm sorry to say but i am still leaning towards the stock XF engine with triple throttle bodies and microtech system. but please try to talk me out of it i want to do what is going to get me the best performance, economy, reliability etc. so keep the ideas coming please :D

DOHC is current model Falcon motor. Might be a bit hard to get, but 182Kw could be worht it.

My choice would be to get a post 88 OHC Falcon donk. More power than a EFI 250, and if you get an XR6 donk it should give you all the power you need either stock standard of with just a chip. I believe the bog standard OHC motor is as powerful as an early Falcon V8 but uses a lot less juice.

sticking a 4.0l into a cortina isnt too hard - just very time consuming. nothing is the same and nothing was meant to fit. i used the ED engine. there's a heap of fotos if u click the "www" button at the bottom of this post. at least with the 250 u wont have to worry about getting the engine to fit.

i've done a bit of homework on the dohc BA engine and the biggest drama i've found so far(without looking any further) is it has a cast alloy sump with bolts running thru the side into the main caps. the cortina pick-up is at the back of the engine so it could be tricky getting/making a sump to do the job. if u can figure that out, please let me know
