I'm looking to install a puller electric fan to my '63 Ranchero w/ a 200. There just really doesn't appear to be enough space for the fans I see in the performance mags. Has anyone found a fan thin enough to not hit the waterpump pully once installed? Maybe I should just leave the mechanical and add a pusher fan.

My 61 Econoline PU had a Spal fan installed by previous owner. I had problems with it over heating when driving hard. I had a guy at a radiator shop who also runs dirt track race cars, tell me to get rid of that fan. I still had him check radiator flow and the thermostat. They were ok and I said I wonder what is the problem. He reminded that when I first came in he told me to get rid of that electric fan. I reluctantly took it of and put the original belt fan on. Guess what, he was right . I haven't had a heating problem since.

BTW the radiator was moved forward by using 1 nut at each bolt for a spacer and the fan fit without hitting the water pump.

I should probably just build a shroud for my mechanical fan. It's a nice stainless flex fan from Perma-Cool. I can feel it really throws some air, it's just not pulling it through the radiator. I'm also due for a coolant change and should put in some water wetter or something. That stuff actually seems to help.

What's a "Spal fan"?

Spal is brand name. It is a very thin high cfm fan. Supposed to be one of the best. However it didn't work for in my Econoline..
