Obviously it isn't supposed to be that way...but:
Yesterday morning I started up the car to try to tune it up and see if my oil pan repairs were effective.
They were. Finally some good news. Only problem is was that I could not get the car to run very well. Any time you gave it gas it would die. I tried timing it but that was nearly impossible since it wasn't running very smoothly.
After about 10 minutes of letting it run (and it would die intermentitly (sp?)) I noticed a lot of oil running down the block from and arear between #3 and 4 cylinders. I immediately stop the car. I tried to do an initial inspection with a mirror but it started to rain so I called it a day. I just walked away. My initial thought was something wrong with the head.
Talked with someone online last night who mentioned they had a similar problem with an exhaust leak coupled with a leaking fuel pump. They said that something had let go in the fuel pump causing the fuel pump to allow fuel into the oil and I suspect vice versa right?
This morning went to look. I was going to fire the car up and put a piece of paper to see if I could tell if the oil was coming from the exhaust or not. I don't think I need to even try that. I looked at it with an inspection mirror and there is oil all around the exhaust donut gasket. I checked the oil level in the pan and then I smelled it. it smelled like gas. I just put fresh oil in the pan yesterday morning, so this is 1 day old, ran only for 10 minute oil, and it smells like gas.
[edit]: More information I forgot...I first started the engine on Thursday morning to run in the cam. It ran with no problems, only an exhaust leak and #6 piston counterweight hitting the oil pan. Engine ran strong though for 20 minutes while I ran in the cam.
It also ran fine Thursday afternoon when I fixed the exhaust leak and found out about the oil pan being struck with no leaks.
The leak didn't start until yesterday morning. [end edit]
So...to my questions (finally).
1) Is it my fuel pump (fuel pump is of unknown age)?
2) Is it something else? (do I need to do a compression check to find out)?
3) Anything else I should check?
