Smell of Fuel in my Oil...questions...

Obviously it isn't supposed to be that way...but:

Yesterday morning I started up the car to try to tune it up and see if my oil pan repairs were effective.

They were. Finally some good news. Only problem is was that I could not get the car to run very well. Any time you gave it gas it would die. I tried timing it but that was nearly impossible since it wasn't running very smoothly.

After about 10 minutes of letting it run (and it would die intermentitly (sp?)) I noticed a lot of oil running down the block from and arear between #3 and 4 cylinders. I immediately stop the car. I tried to do an initial inspection with a mirror but it started to rain so I called it a day. I just walked away. My initial thought was something wrong with the head.

Talked with someone online last night who mentioned they had a similar problem with an exhaust leak coupled with a leaking fuel pump. They said that something had let go in the fuel pump causing the fuel pump to allow fuel into the oil and I suspect vice versa right?

This morning went to look. I was going to fire the car up and put a piece of paper to see if I could tell if the oil was coming from the exhaust or not. I don't think I need to even try that. I looked at it with an inspection mirror and there is oil all around the exhaust donut gasket. I checked the oil level in the pan and then I smelled it. it smelled like gas. I just put fresh oil in the pan yesterday morning, so this is 1 day old, ran only for 10 minute oil, and it smells like gas.

[edit]: More information I forgot...I first started the engine on Thursday morning to run in the cam. It ran with no problems, only an exhaust leak and #6 piston counterweight hitting the oil pan. Engine ran strong though for 20 minutes while I ran in the cam.

It also ran fine Thursday afternoon when I fixed the exhaust leak and found out about the oil pan being struck with no leaks.

The leak didn't start until yesterday morning. [end edit]

So...to my questions (finally).

1) Is it my fuel pump (fuel pump is of unknown age)?
2) Is it something else? (do I need to do a compression check to find out)?
3) Anything else I should check?

Well a fuel pump is easy enough to change out so you might want to give it a try. Have you though about a carb flooding over or a vacuum leak on the offy set up. I fought a vacuum leak for awhile and it ran pretty bad at idle. check your engine vacuum at idle. it should be around 15 to 18 with a steady needle. If it is low you have a leak.

8) a pin hole leak in the fuel pump diaphram will pump alot of fuel into the oil pan. replace the fuel pump just on gp.

Fuel pump is filling your crankcase and thinning out your oil. Make sure you don't go far with the thinned out oil. Change your oil ASAP.
