i need a little help here my mustang its a 66 200 she seems to be blowing out some blackish grey smoke and when i had the original exhaust on it it would leave thick black stuff on the pavement or ground and it hesitates when i hit the gas i think thats the valve stem seals i was told my stang was running rich if so how do i properly adjust the 1100 and if not any ideas o the problem?.....thanx[/img]

Check the timing and ignition, air fuel. my guess is that the black substance is unburned fuel mixed with carbon. you might want to do a compression test as well. let us know what u find

hmm i seem to have the same problem except it was WAY WORSE when I first started moving my car around, in one spot i let the car idle for a minute or so, then truned it off and wham... a BIG black dead grass spot.... after driving my car its not there... well good luck....

Some black soot isn't uncommon. Definitely sounds like you are running rich between that and the hesitation. I would say you may need to rebuild the 1100 sometime soon if you don't know how long it's been. But first, check your ignition system and make sure all the plugs are firing (replace if you are unsure of age). Make sure your timing is set correctly. Check your idle mix screw and your fast idle screw is not too open. Basically, do a tune up and see where that puts you.
