Soo...my carb cracked. Suggestions?

The carb housing on my 170 literally cracked and is now seeping fuel out the face of the carb. I need a replacement carb but I'm starting to rebuild the car (and the 170 is going to be replaced by a bigger six) so the cheaper the better. I just need something to keep the car running.

I was looking at getting a reman 1101A for a 67 Stang 200 ($132) but I wasnt sure if I should do that or just stick with an 1100.

And yes, I know remans are junk (the current carb is a reman) but this is only temporary. If someone knows where I can get carb that'll bolt right up for less than that, that'd be great. But I dont want to be scouring the treasure yards for this.

An option would be to get a nice carb that you would use for your bigger six replacement engine that way you wouldn't lose any money on your investment of course it may not run right on your old 170.

hey blueroo

I've got an autolite 1100 that I took off my 200 i6. Might you be interested in that? It definitely needs to be rebuilt, however.

Ryan, If blueroo doesn't take it there's another member Cometgalaxie that needs one. I promised him one and now can't find it, so I know he neeeds one or if anybody else has a spare. Thanks,

Jahearne, the bigger six is going to be fuel injected.

Ryan. Could you send me a pm with some info and how much you want for it?

Can you clean it up and do a JB Weld fix?

jimlj66 has a good idea..

JB weld can do a good job if the crack will allow it and you do a good job of cleaning it first.

All up sides here if it will work for you: No need to worry if your $130 carb will work on your new build.
Allow you some time to get to your new build going.

No down side: If it dint work ya ant no worse off except a little time and the cost of JB weld.
Good Luck

JB Weld didn't work. I had the carb stripped, cleaned and sanded and recleaned and it didn't work. The problem is its not one big crack....its a crapload of very tiny spider cracks all across the face. Save for literally encasing the carb in jb weld I don't see it working

If it's a bunch of little spider cracks, maybe you can get some of that stuff they use to seal the insides of rusty gas tanks after they treat them. I think Eastwood has the stuff or maybe you could get just a little bit of it from a nearby radiator repair shop that also seals tanks. If the cracks aren't structural, the sealer will hold up fine to fuel as it was designed for the inside of gas tanks.

That was done too and it worked for a year. I'd prefer to get a different carb as the vent rod is wrong for this carb, the float is wrong, just a lot of junk.

:( Hi blueroo. From the description of the cracking problem,it sounds like the carb body was defective from the factory.Faulty casting.Over the years I have seen quite a number come that way from the factory, including new cars right off the showroom floor.
