I got a question that I gotta ask. I can not find an answer in what I have seen of the forums so far. If I want an offy 3 carb setup am I going to have to drill into my stock 65 intake/head or is there another head out there that I can pull off of a later model IL6? I know what is entailed in a head swap but I can not seem to get my head around the 3 carb setup. If anyone who has run the swap can give me some pointers or point me to a thread that has already dealt with this question. Sub question....am I just better off going with a 2 barrel conversion? Thanks Guys/Gals

Darrell

The only heads that had removable intakes were manufactured in Australian and South America. Do a search for the Argi or 2V head in this forum.

If it is stock, don't mess with the tri-carb setup. The are many progressive two barrel carbs available at garage sales, swap meets and on line. There were progressive two barrels installed on some ford pintos that will get you started with fuel jetting closer to what you need if you are looking for something used. There are many online outfits that will provide a quality rebuild, but from what I have seen you will still need to make sure your air-fuel and main jets are properly setup. Fortunately there are many hear that have already gone through this effort. Do a search for DFV, DGV, (which are Webers) and 5200 (Holley) on this forum.

Good luck, Ric.

8) you can use either your stock head, of use a later model head, its your choice. offenhauser made conversion kits for both style heads. they are however getting hard to find anymore. also unless you have a lot of experience with tuning multiple carb installs, the triple one barrel carbs can be a bit of a nightmare. the easiest install is the 2bbl carb conversion, since the adapter is a bolt on deal. you will have to play with the linkage to get it to work depending on which direction you bolt the carb on, and which carb and adapter you get.

I agree the 2bbl option would be a much easier route if you arent worried about gas mileage and plan future upgrades a holley 2300 350cfm is what a lot of people inlcuding me run and its a great carb pluys you can buy them new so parts are available. As far as the offy go once theyare tuned they are usually good there are people who will chime in and love theirs with only minor tuning on 3 weber 1bbls but you do have to drill two extra holes on your head for the other two carbs.

With the trip set up you will need to drill the head to be able to install the offy manifold. Going a two barrel you will need only and adapter. I have ran both. There is a cool facotr with the trip set up and it does run well once you get it dialed in. However in my opinion the two barrle Holley has been one of the best bangs for the dollars spent.

If you cruze the tech section you might find some early posts on modding the log for the 3-car setup by a forum friend. It can be done, but as Rbohm says....is it worth the trouble..
