Square Log?

Looks square, but it's the only pic I have of it. The runners look similar to an OZ head? I think it was produced in Brazil? Bet Doug would have fun with it anyway. :D

After 1969, all Aussie sixes which weren't ohc, x-flow or 2v got a vaugely square log six. I'll have to look around for one, but they look very similar.

These had sqaure logs had casting numbers ARC9DE 6049 and a revison code. They came out with the XT Falcon and were also found is some later Fairlanes, Cortinsa, Transit vans and the XW/XY/XA/XB Falcons up untill 1976.

Before that, all Aussie heads were simialr to the 52 cc US 170/200 heads, and were round dog turds with a C1UE 6049-A casting number. These were found in XK, XL, XM, XP, XR Falcons and Futuras

No photos, my garage looks like the nutty professor had a high (cast) iron diet and then exploded.

Where'd you find that Mike? I'm sure it wasn't made in Brazil, but Argentina if it's not Austrailian. Casting number?

xtaxi, Thanks for the informed reply. Good info. I had no idea a square log was ever produced, so I was stumped when I saw the pic. :? How do they flow, when compared to the round log? I'm assuming it would be slightly better?

John, a guy (in Brazil) sent me the pic, wanting to know if I would like to buy it? Along with a bunch of other parts. I have no other info on it, but the price is reasonable. Looks like you could install side draft carbs on it? At any rate, I'm working on a deal to buy the whole package, as it has some other goodies that I'm after (2 complete 221ci). I don't need the log head, so if anyone wants it, it will be for sale (cheap).

I wonder if its the same exhaust manifold pattern as the US/Oz head or if its the same as the Argy head???

If its truly flat & square.... 8) 8)

Later,

Doug

That particular Argy head has the same exhaust pattern as the Oz and US heads.

Go for it Doug ;)

I'll have to check it out, and keep you posted.

All Aussie 61 to 76 heads used the Bendix Stromberg BX series 1-bbl carbs. These were shared with GM Holden 1962 to 1979 sixes, and varied the single barrel hole from 1.3" in the early one to 1.75" in the last ones. The logs that Big Al and hexhead and MustangGeezer have cut up look similar to the post 69 logs. Early heads cut up look like what Darwin has been doing.

So post 69 items have similar large intake runners.

Thanks John!! Good to know I wouldnt have to mess with my header any!!
