Stalling on Right Hand turns (Continued)

Well, my buddy the stall is back. I followed a link that someone posted a few days ago to the Edelbrock website containing videos of tuning your carb. AWESOME Videos! I found out that some of my problem was caused by by accelerator pump not being adjusted right. So I turned the screw to allow more fuel in and my stumble during acceleration (not idle) stopped! Then I pulled out my idle fuel mixture screws and cleaned them because one of them wasn't working, now they both work. Then I checked out the right hand turn thing again and it seems that since I adjusted the accelerator pump it made the stalling on right turns more prevalent. It never really went away, just wasn't noticeable. So today I raised my float level to see if that would make it less prevalent, and it stayed about the same or a little worse. Now I'm wondering if I should lower my float level. Here are a few questions I have.....

1.) Where is the fuel supplied from? My carb is facing the passenger wheel well and the stumble happens on right hand turns. So I'm thinking that it is because the fuel is going to the back of the carb and the engine can't get any. Now since the adjustments, I'm thinking that maybe the fuel is supplied at the back and I'm possibly flooding the engine. Is there a way to tell? other then just trial and error? I just know that my problem has something to do with this.

The floor is open...

Since a demon is just a glorified holley carb try this.

Just make sure you float level is correct.

I have fixed many a flat spot on cornering just by going to a 8.5 power valve. See what you have & give it a try you have nothing to loose.

I have found the holley's to be lean when cornering & the 8.5 fills in that lean spot in the fuel curve.

With my 4412-500 I can put it in any turn & it just keeps on pulling, no flat spots or hesitations. Good luck William

So this same thing happens to you too? When making a right hand turn, as I'm easing out of the turn, If I floor it then it will be fine but if I just ease the pedal (normal driving condition) it will have a BIG hesitation. I pulled out of pep boys the other day (right hand turn) and the engine died. Just want to make sure that we are talking about the same thing.

edit: I just checked my manual for the carb.
"To pick a power valve size check your engine vacuum at idle and use the following formula:

Engine vacuum x 0.50 + 0.5 = Power Valve required (round to the closest size)"

My idle vacuum is ~16 so that would equal 8.5. You were dead on. I checked online to see which power valve the carb came with, but I can't find mine on the internet, the closest is the 500 cfm and it comes with a 6.5. I can only assume that mine has a 6.5 as well. So I will get an 8.5. Now I'm also assuming that holly and demon are interchangable, google couldn't give me an answer whether they were the same, but it is worth a shot. Now just to see if any of the local parts stores have any.

I was checking our your site and I wanted to compliment you on your engine. Very clean! Did you fab up the throttle linkage?

It is just an 'L' shaped bracked mounted to my carb adaptor (which I don't have anymore) with holes in it for a cable, spring and :nono: (piece of coathanger):nono:. I don't have this setup anymore, I bought another carb adaptor that was turned the other direction so that the carb is facing the passenger side wheel well. The new linkage is a lot more ugly but still uses the same idea.

Thanks,

That is great info. I thought that the clifford one would be better, it seems to have more transition area... Does it leave the carb sitting too high? I've got a 2100 I'm going to install on my 65 so this is info I can sure use.
Sorry for hi-jacking your thread.

Negative on the power steering.

I just installed the 8.5 power valve and test drove it, still acting up. BUT, before I took off the bowl I noticed that my float level was REALLY high, so while I had it off I took it down. When I started the car it was REALLY low, so I raised it but it didn't raise very much so I drove it assuming that it would fill up on the drive. I got back and the fuel level isn't even in the window. Now tomorrow morning I'm going to raise the float level to about mid glass and test it on my way to work. I have a good feeling about this. I've also had a good feeling about everything else I have done to fix the problem and it is still around. I'll keep you all posted. I got the power valve for 8.99 at O'Reillys, suprised me that they had it.

Thanks for the advise.

Get proper fuel pressure to your carb, like 6-8 #'s & your fuel level in your carb will be very adjustable.

I think you have fuel starvation, you keep riching up & no gain.

I ran a drag car before & gained .3 tenths & 3 mph in the 1/4 just with proper fuel pressure??? William
