StangTv DUI article

My Opinion , on this is,Funny how it was a Feels so much better answer, than a it picked up X amount of hp, and no Cost was givin per power gain , a DUI is Mid 70's Tech , Which of course is Way better than the ( slightly above a Farmall H Ignition ) "Tractor",that a loadamatic is , show me a Ford with a loadamatic and at least 75% only have base timing ( the advance dosen't work ) a Durspark and a GM Module or better yet a MSD 6 ( or equivilent ) along with any modern coil will be cheaper and look better than a GM DUI , again as I stated in some older posts if it was THE TICKET , Nascar would use it , they Don't , To be fair most articles are written after the part was donated to whoever was doing the writing ( or at least employed by the recipient ) so take it for what its worth , an advertisement

The only good point from that article is like they said. Going from the pertronix in a load-o-matic with what looked like a stock coil to a DUI will improve performance.

Will it improve performance over an DS2 with an MSD controller (which is still $100 cheaper)? I doubt it. The technology is too close to the same. The only benefit I see from DUI is their 'custom' curving they apparently do upon request. It is a simple install as well (not that DS2 with MSD is hard).

8) is the DUI old tech? yes it is, by my response to that is so what? how many of us are upgrading the electronic fuel injection? the answer to that is not many as most of the questions here are still about what carb to swap on. and unless we are going to need to upgrade not only to EFI, but also to modern emission controls, we dont need the very latest in ignition systems, 70's technology will do just fine. by the way, the DUI is in fact 70's technology.

I think the rub is when it gets repackaged and sold as a "new" technology that is supposedly better than a cheaper technology from the same decade. Can anyone prove the DUI is better than DS2? If so, what is the $$$/HP gained?

It's more the marketing of the DUI. Same with carbs. Performance carbs are marketed with 'new and modern' features when really it's the same things that backyard carb gurus were doing in the 60s. Just marketing.

As with all magazine articles, people have to realize that very few performance car publications are going to do a real thorough comparison and critique of a product that is given to them for free by one of their advertisers to do an article on. I really think that sometimes magazines should be required (like other information sources) to put an acknowledgement at the beginning or end of an article if the product was supplied for free and if the supplier is an advertiser.

+1 to what Slade said.

Consumer's Report purchases all of their products for testing purposes to eliminate bias.

The only bias CR has is the staff''s toward Japanese vehicles. All Japanese vehicles are recommended, few American and Korean vehicles are, and no European vehicles make the cut. CR almost choked when they had to pull their recommendations on Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
