I just pulled my 170 apart. it has a solid camshaft in it and i measured its lift to be around .350 at the valve with 1.5 rockers. does this sound about right? camshaft is marked 3DE 6250B.

I was just wondering how much duration etc the stock cams have, I'd like to compare it to the wade camshaft im looking at.

on a side note i had a good chuckle at the 170's 4 main bearing bottom end. what the heck were ford thinking.

Lift sounds about right. I measured 221 intake, 229 exhaust on a 2V cam. Multiply by the rocker ratio and you're there. NFI on the duration. you garage is a mess but the bottom end looks surprisingly clean and in good nick for a 40-year old motor. Been rebuilt before?

FFHB says 170c.i. stock--

Check it out the handbook can make anybody sound knowledgeable.

Re: 4 main caps.

The story I have read/heard is that Ford thought that it would have less drag with 4 mains than 7. And with the output of about 100 HP (gross) these caps were not going to be stressed much  .

My Dad worked at Ford from '53 to '60 and he remembers talking to Develpoment Engineers on the Falcon program. He said that their number one concern was gas milage. Sounds like FoMoCo was going to try and compete with the then growing VW Beatle :? .
