hey guys, I know its been awhile since I've logged on and asked a question. I've got my car running and fairly tuned well. But I'm hearing some noises out of the carb. When I crank the car and get it running, you can hear a sucking noise out of the carb. I assume this is normal.... but when you rev the engine and let the throtle go down, there is a fluttering noise coming out of the carb. I have now idea what it is causing the noise but I don't think its affected the engine's performance. You guys have an idea what the noise might be and what is causing it?

I hope to post some pictures soon of my engine bay.

someone else mentioned taht too recently

vacuum leak? make ssense.....but I dont know

Whether or not the fluttering is a problem is hard to tell. Many carb/engine combinations can create this sound when the engine is coming down in revs, and the throttle is off, thus closing the carb.

In the example I dealt with, the fluttering was the sound of air escaping intermittently past the throttle plate, which was oscillating because of the vaccum created by the engine. Also, various unstable vortexes are created by air being sucked into the mostly closed carb, creating similar noises.

I can't say if this is a problem in your case, but it wasn't a very big problem in mine. I believe we 'solved' the problem by adjusting the throttle return spring.
