After I got the manifold done, I was kind of hung up on what to use for a spacer between the manifold and the carbs. I couldn't find any phenolic material the thickness I wanted and was just about to start laminating. I was even considering plywood. Then the other night I was cooking, slicing up some veggies when I realized that the poly cutting board would be perfect!
And my wife would never notice a couple of inches whacked off the end (right
).
Anyway, the poly board cuts nicely, holds up easily to the heat that manifold will encounter and voila! - done! I'm going to keep the rest of the board to use for future carb spacers and such.
I primed the bowls, reconnected the fuel lines, pulled the choke, turned the ignition and it fired right up, settling immediately into a nice idle. Mixture seems to be very close to correct. Throttle response is very nice, almost as good as the Mikunis. It only took a very mnor adjustment to get idle mixture and idle speed set. This is going to be nice!
I found some nifty round air filters for an industrial lawn mower and I'll see if those will fit. Pics later.
