Stuck Float or Needle? 1101

Fuel is pouring into my intake manifold. I can look down the throat of the rebuilt autolite 1101 and see a pool of fuel pouring in. Even after turning the engine off it continues sending fuel in for a few minutes. Can I pull the top of the 1101 while it's still on the car to clean the float & needles? Any other suggestions?

Take a plastic or light hamer and gentally tap the float bowl to see if float is sticking. If thats not it you will need to take the top off to reset the float height or if its sticking on the hinge pin.

The top pops right off. All you need to do is undo 8 screws, choke linkage and accel pump linkage and fuel line. My problem turned out to be a bad float. The original brass float was full of gas. I couldn't find a hole or leak in it. I drilled a hole, drained out the gas and soldered it back up. Car runs great again. I imagine that whatever micro leak it has will cause the float to fill again in a few weeks.

Does anyone know where I can get a new float?

I just shake the float and look for some seepage there will be the crack I open it up a little with a pick or awl and do as you did drain dry with a match and solder it up it is usually this is a long term fix. Most times crack is right next to the hinge pin bracket it weakens over time. NAPA used to sell new floats as did most bigger auto parts stores.

last time i had this problem in a YF a few months ago, i took a zippo to find the hole and drain the float, thought about soldering it up, but found the for the price of a new float (under $10 IIRC), there was no valid reason to spend the effort to find solder and repair it myself.

You also have to watch how much solder you get on them and where, if its close to the arm its not so bad but if its away from the arm it starts adding weight pretty quick.

I'm having trouble finding a new float. Been to Napa, Kragen & Autozone. They list one, but it's a dual float for a replacement Carter carb, not a single float for the 1101. Anyone have any ideas where I can find one?
