on ebay i found an elec. supercharger that pumps out 240 cfm. for 45.00 usd + 15.00 s+h. it supposedly gives about 20 hp how does this sound for a quick bolt on?

tis is the whole report on it: sorry its so long! does it sound allright for a 250 cause its meant for a four banger, but it sounds like it draws a certain amount of air plus the air u already are taking in, id just have to rig it right!:

"This product is by far the coolest thing to ever happen to the import world. Finally something we can all afford to place under the hood. This device is used either with a cold air intake(recommended) or with your stock setup. The blower uses a safe 12 volt source to power up and with up to 240 cfm(cubic feet of air a minute)extra moving through your intake you cant go wrong. Why spend up to a $3000.00 on a turbo or supercharger which can overheat your engine or worse yet blow it up, when you can add this simple device in less then an hour and still keep the warrantee on your vehicle. After all greddy and a garrett turbos only put out a average of 100cfm more and it take about 15 seconds to get to top spool, with the turbo blower, top spool is now with a flick of a switch. Installation is a breeze. all you need is a 4in to 3in reducer which you can get at any home improvement store and just an hour of your time(wire and toggle switch included free of charge). The inlet and outlet size of the blower is 4in and the length is 4in. which most of that is in your intake filter.FILTER NOT INCLUDED. I put one on my friends civic and cut 1/2 second off of his 1/4 mile time and I personally gained 29 hp on the dyno at my friends hotrod shop. seller not responsible for vehicle after installation, I know my product I don’t know the installer. BID WITH CONFIDENCE, CHECK MY FEEDBACK. .(THE ITEM SHOWN IS A 3 INCH MODEL WITH A SHEET METAL COVER FOR COSMETICS)Shipping will be 15.00 and will be shipped within a week after payment is recieved, product shipped via usps priority mail, please contact me with any questions regarding this product"

I have seen (read) some pretty hardcore shâ„¢tcanning of these devices. As well as how much it may flow, how much does it obstruct?

Please post the link

Most of these devices are pure garbage. They flow some specified CFM against 0 PSIG head. Increase the back pressure to 6 PSIG and the flow drops to approx 0 CFM. If it doesn't have a drive motor on the odrer of 10-20 HP it simply doesn't have enough power to work as a supercharger.

Also there's the minor issue of power supply. 10 HP is 7.46 kW. At 12 VDC, that's 621 amps at 100% efficiency. How big an alternator you got???

Spend your money elsewhere.

8) he also mentions that he got 29hp by bolting it on, but most turbo installs add far more than that. ford used a turbo on their first turbo mustangs and got 57hp, and with the second gen turbos got 117 more hp. the stock four popper they used made 88hp.

ok thanks guys I'll try to avoid picking up bs like this it sounded pretty good for a bolt on but yea i suppose a used turbo will cost just a bit more in the long run and really be worth it, as long as i dont screw up my engine, but theres deffinitely lots of info already on the forem and if need be the answer is only a question away. this forum is awsome.

I just had to run the numbers. A 250 at 5500 RPM and 80% VE requires 318 CFM. Less flow than that and you're robbing, not boosting power. Use a 6 PSI boost (1.4 pressure ratio), and you only get an airflow increase of approx. 125% (density ratio is less than pressure ratio due to compressor inefficiency) or about 398 CFM

I dragged out my copy of Mark's Handbook and looked up compressor HP. 6 PSI and 400 CFM requires about 14.25 HP so 10-20 HP was a pretty fair estimate. That 15 HP motor would draw about 932 amps @ 100% efficiency.

Actually, you could do an electric supercharger if you wanted to, but not like that one. You'd need to find a 15 HP, 3500 RPM, 12VDC motor (assuming one exists or could be custom wound) some big storage batteries, a second alternator and charging circuit tasked only with keeping them topped off and a relay that activated the blower motor only at WOT on the TPS. For the blower you could use an appropriately sized Paxton/Vortech/Powerdyne centrfugal. I estimate that (if you could find a home for that monster motor) the entire mess would only add 200 additional lbs and cost about 3 times as much as mounting the exact same blower with a gilmer belt drive.

wow thats some great info u got there. that extra 200 lbs would certainly suck to have cause the car already wieghs 3,250 lbs. those ads for the quick bolt on power are sure tempting to us guy who are fairly new to engines'n'power, i'm glad they got this forem cause the people i talk to normaly, ( my freinds who think they're mechanics cause they leart it in school), only think they know what they're talking about, now i get info from the pros, right on!

Well the good thing is that you first asked for some opinions and didn't buy it !!!!!

You americans have a saying that I live by.....if it sounds too good to be true....it probably is.....

These blowers offered on EBAY and other Auction sites are usually SCAMS! Several of the blowers auctioned. The sellers usually have a low Feedback number due to the fact that they wil change their name after a few have sold.

I have recognized these as a MARINE BILGE BLOWER, the only use is to expell the fumes from the lower bilge. These are made of plastic and usually wear out in 2-3 months of continous use. I work at a marina and can tell you this IS a scam.....DONT BUY 'em! And besides... My cost for these blowers are $9.00. Check out this page:

Take care all....just remember BUYER BEWARE!

thats pretty funny actually    but people are making money off of them, i mean i actually might have bought one if i didnt have u guys to talk to, and that would have sucked.
