i have an 82 f100 with a 300 six that just went on me. i'm planning on replaceing the 300 with another 300 as soon as i can afford another one. a friend has offered up a 76 granada with a 250 in it. will a 250 swap over in place of the 300?

thanks

Mark,

It is not a direct bolt in. The 144, 170. 200 and 250 are considered small sixes, the 240 and 300 are big sixes. They can be swapped but there is mods to be made before that can be done. In my opinion it is just not worth it. Three hundreds are pretty plentiful in the yards and I would recommend that route or redoing the one that died. A long block is another option of course.

thanks jim
i was hoping for a cheap fix to tie me over intill spring. i had thought they were the same block.

you are probably thinking of the 240
it is the same block, and all that's really needed to change one to the other is the complete rotating assembly
i would say that they are much rarer than the 250, but i don't know how "much" much is (i do know what "is" is though!)

Aussie F150's and Broncos ran 250's, cross-flows.

Sout American F150's ran 221 I6's, which were similar to the 250.

Easy fit. The US 250 will bolt in even more easily. The sump must be modified to 300 I6 profile, using either a 200 Fox I6 sump oil pick-up screen and pipe, and just the 300 sump cut down.

The engine mounts were wider pitched on the 300 I6. The 250 has a line of transfer lugs along the sump. All you need to do is pull the 300 out, and make up a steel plate on each side to mount the 300 engine mounts to the block. Pontiacs with 389', 421, 428, 455's and Olds 403's have been using such plates for eons.

Have A GO!
