I'm going to be swapping heads and i was wondering if i have to worry about my engine block being warped...i never had overheating...just hotter than normal (nothing went wrong though)

the head off the engine im using was rebuild with 60K miles on it and was running fine and all that when it was pulled. the reason i'm switching is mostly because the front flange that the exhaust manifold bolts to is busted as well as the valves being larger on this head. i was going to do this head up but i'll save the parts for the aluminum head and start saving up for that. Would i most likely be fine with a direct swap (are the blocks, heads known for warping?) i dont have any head-deck mating problems and neither does the other one...should i still mill the head that i'm putting on though? if i do how much...i dont want anymore than a 1point bump in compression as i would hate to pay for more premium than regular gas.

thanks for any help...i hope to do the swap in a week.

well i'm gonna try swap the heads...if anything is warped i'll know and only be out the cost of the gaskets.

it is rare fof blocks to warp and as to whether you should mill the head depends on the condition of the head you are using and the year the head is which determines the CC's of the head and also if you are using a thicker than stock head gasket. it is possible that you could end up with a very low compression engine.

the head is a '78 200 head. gasket thickness is the same. I'm not looking for more power or anything, just a better head...but if i need to mill this head to get the CR between 8.0:1 - 9.0:1 then i will. thanks for the replies guys.
