T-5 shifter position

For those of you who have made the T-5 swap... how well does the 4 cyl. T-5 shifter hit the stock AT shifter hole in the tunnel of a '66 200 coupe? Were any modification to the tunnel or shifter hole necessary?
Thanks.

On my late 65, which is the same...

I had to cut 3/8" off the passenger side, and a little more than that in the front... almost 1/2" there.... I then made new mounting holes and custom fitted a cover... was not easy, since I had the engine and tranny in the car, the shifter was dropped down under the tunnel and I cut and fit mine that way, not perfect...

it is a very tight fit in there all the way around!

but worth the effort.

I do not know if the automatic and manual cars had different holes in the tunnel. But my conversion using Al's adapter, and the bellhousing from my 2.77 three speed did not require any trimming of the hole.

The manual and auto holes are the same.

On mine it came right up thru the stock hole, no trimming necessary. That was with a Windsor-Fox crossmember. I even used the stock manual boot and trim.

I also did not have to trim anything to get it to fit. I used the adaptor from NPD. It's a tight fit, but it will fit.

On mine, from what I was told the C4 shifter was not directly centered in the hole in the tunnel... the T5 shifter did fit in without trimming, but it was too tight for my taste... so I trimmed some clearance. You may not have to, best to test fit if possible...

Just to clarify.
