I am posting this saga with the hopes it may help some other unfortunate soul.

A year ago I posted an inquiry re: poor acceleration and loss of power at low end. Since then I have replaced the head gasket, distributor and coil. While the head was off I pressure checked the intake rail (no leaks). I thought my balancer/timing mark had moved as I needed to contually advance the spark to drive the car. Alas the car moved slower and slower until last Friday when the cam drive gear key/pin sheared.

It appears that the gear had been loose for some time-new timing set installed and I can now do 60 up the hill in 3rd where the week before it was 35 in 2nd.

What a difference at little valve timing makes!

Yeah, sometimes it's tough with buying an old car that is new to you. That why I was glad I gave up on my old engine and did a 'dealer' rebuild on my current engine. I know that the engine shouldn't be an issue anytime soon.
