Temporary Exhaust Setup, Details & Follow-up request.

I also purchased a set of long tube headers from Mike for my coupe. I plan to undertake a simular project as Jammer did back in July of 2007...

That is to install the headers and use a Y-pipe and reducer to connect it to the stock exhaust for now. Swap to a dual pipe system with performance mufflers when I can afford it.

My questions is: What difficulties should I expect when connecting two 2" pipes to a single 1.75" pipe using multiple band clamps? I've already purchased one band clamp from Mike. Should I order three more? What other parts will I need? Will the pipes fit inside each other. How tight should they be? Do I need to prep the mettle? Is it really just mettle to mettle? No high-temp grease, glue or something?

Can those of you who have attempted such a task, comment on the details (the nitty-gritty) of such an job. It's 23° outside at the moment, so the shorter my learning curve the better. I would like to learn from your mistakes and hear about your results.

Setup: 67 Mustang, mostly stock 200, C4, newly upgraded electrical system, TIF Module w/ original dizzy, blaster 2 coil. Silver color, ceramic coated headers.

Band clamps are great. Working in cold weather will make you apreciate the quick, simple and strong connection they make. They preserve the integrity of the pipes unlike the U-bolt clamps.

Band clamps will conform to the pipes and provide visual confirmation of how tight you want them. I don't believe there are band clamps made for pipes under 2".

To adapt the 2" to the 1.75 pipe you can get an sleeve adapter and applicable clamp at a local Auto-Zoo type vendor for a few bucks.

I used a "Y connector" and band clamps on a "Stage-I" setup on the '61 and was able to re-use the pipes and band clamps when I went to dual out' for "Stage II".

"Stage I" with dual headers TO flex pipes TO dual mufflers TO Y connector to original tailpipe location and glasspack in OEM muffler location. (after dump valve):

if you want performance mufflers for cheap check out your local junkyard, at mine i get flowmasters ,magnaflows, dynomax's for around $10-40

some times i even find borlas

Thanks. I'm not sure if I should buy a new muffler at the moment - definitely for stage II. Interesting setup Powerband. So, if I were to do "Setup I" as you describe I would need two flex-pipes, two mufflers and one glass pack and eight band clamps. Does that sound about right?

What do you guys think about this:

"Setup I" with dual headers TO y-pipe TO single flex-pipe TO existing exhaust pipe and muffler.

At cost of: four band clamps, one y-connector, and one flex-pipe. Anyone know if an auto-zoo type Y-connector butts up squarely with Mike's duel headers. If not, I might need an additional flex-pipe, and clamp and a setup which looks like:

"Setup I" with dual headers TO duel flex-pipe TO y-pipe TO existing exhaust pipe and muffler.
