The great exhaust donut debate

Guy at the muffler shop says the metal donut is better than the non-metal (fiber?) one. My experience is that the fiber donut seals better.

Any votes on this important issue?

New pipe and manifold the metal donut would be the best and for a used pipe and manifold the fibre one would be the best because it would conform better to both surfaces.

A police officer would also prefer the fibre doughnut over the metal one because it would be easier to chew...
