The L6 is in bad shape...

Would a bad timing on the engine cause the engine to vibrate violently upon pushing the throttle lever? It also sounds like the engine has a misfire. It's sputters when I give it gas (idle sounds funny)and then smooths out at high revs. Off idle and a quick blip of the throttle and it'll backfire. So it sounds like a timing issue.

I did not do anything to this engine, other than an electrical change and replacing a stripped bracket for the motormount. I never messed with the plug wires, distributor or timing or anything of the like.

Would an electrical fan change the timing?

Are you runnig an aftermarket ignition? Would a bad ground connection cause this? Check it out maybe that's it.

I mixed the plug wires for #3 and #5...

it was bucking like a crazy bull...

Did you ever have one of those days when you could crank and crank and crank an engine and the battery got low and the starter got hot and you had to let it sit and cool off while you recharged the battery and it still wouldn't start and you checked everything and you had fuel and you had spark at the coil and you had the timing right and the compression was good and you were pulling your hair out and ready to shoot the damn engine and roll the thing off a cliff or maybe into the river after you set it on fire only to find out that the rotor was still sitting on the fender, you dumb*&%&^$ (*&(*&(........

I did that when I did the tune-up on my '63. Spent several hours trying to get the thing started, then I spent almost as much time cussing at myself when I realized that the new rotor was stitting on the porch. At least I know I'm not the first/only one to do that. Won't be the last thats for sure! Take care,
