So far, I took the points out of my dizzy and converted it to electronic ignition . Right now I got it to where it will idle ok and drive ok, but it still has some bad hiccupps, does anyone know what the best base timing degree is for the dizzy and my holley 2300? Just so I know im in the ballpark so I can adjust it from there. Also on my holley I have the advance vacuum from the distrib running to full manifold vacuum on the carb with the retard on the vacuum advance open and then timed spark vacuum port open on the carb. Does this sound correct? If not how should I run them

Here is my Holley during install.

The vac line off the manifold is for my PCV valve only. I used the advance vacuum take off on the left side of the image to run across the back of the engine valve cover to my distributor advance.

Hope this helps.

I have a PCV vacuum on my carb that I run to the PCV vavle itself. But I just don't know if I should leave that timed spark vacuum on the carb open, run it to something or just plug it up. I've its for different types of distributors so should I just cap it and leave it closed? Very nice car by the way ; )

Potey, what year car do you have & what kind of distributor???
Did you use a protonix I or II??

Hey, it's a 68 mustang 200 with automatic. It has the stock load-o-matic distributor (68 and later model) with dual advance. I also used the pertronix I kit.

If you have a 68 distributor, then you have centrifigul + vacuum advance.

If you have a stock cam, set the base timing at 12 degrees & hook up the outer vacuum advance port to ported vacuum. Just leave the inner port open.

You also can try direct manifold to the advance can, but with a stock cam it may cause a rough idle???

Make sure the harmonic balancer is at true TDC-top dead center.

This will get you in the ballpark with the basic's. William

Thank you very much. You don't live to far away from here either, just noticed that

i find that my car runs much better and idles much smoother with my vaccum advance hooked directly to the manifold, the engine can take alot of advance when under no load at idle, you just need to play around with it to find the best setup for your engine

Thanks. I did change around the vacuum to manifold vacuum and it does run better in gear : ) idle is still close to the same but it rides alot smoother now. Now I got to set the timing and hopefully it will be good to go. Thanks everyone for the help and input
