I just reinstalled the duraspark II back in the engine & hooked the msd up using the duraspark harness via the magnetic pick up wiring.
I have a msd timing light which i checked my initial advance & i also have a mark on the harmonic balancer 38 degrees. I checked both with the msd timing light & timing is right on at both initial & 38 degrees total centrifigul all in @ 2800 rpms.
Removed msd timing light & tried my sears adjustable, MSD ADVISES NOT TO USE A TIMING LIGHT WITH THE ADJUSTABLE FEATURE. they are right on, the initial was ok with the advance knob was at zero, but the total reading using the adjustable knob was 4 degrees different.
A warning if you want to check total advance just use a regular non adjustable light as mentioned in the msd instructions.
You will have to put your own mark on the damper for the total advance you want, do not trust an adjustable timing light. William
