Timing

As a rule of thumb which way would you adjust your timing? Here's the situation. My engine is making a rattling sound, like when it's not timed right. At 50 mph. It goes away the faster I go. Now to get rid of this when it's traveling at that speed, would you go more towards TDC or away? ZZ

Sounds like you need to retard, back toward TDC. If you're at 10* BTDC, you need to go to 8* BTDC. 8)
