Torque converter depth??

I went to mount my tranny to my motor yesterday, and the center spud on the torque converter bottoms out on the back of the motor before the tranny tightens down flush and also before the TC studs go through the flexplate holes. The center spud sticks out farther that the 4 mounting studs, which makes me think the flexplate needs to be deeper AND the bellhousing is too shallow. What's the deal? Do I need a different, deeper flexplate? A different TC? A deeper bellhousing? I'm at my wits end with this tranny, its about to become a boat anchor. Motor is a '66 200.

It was a manual before I believe. Not familiar with the spigot bush(ing). Do i need to pry it out to have the TC center spud sit in that hole? If so, how do I do it? Please tell me it doesn't involve engine disassembly.

EDIT: Just went out and looked at it. Yeah, looks like theres a bushing in there. Is there a special puller i need to get it out or what?

You can pull it with out taking it apart, pack some wheel bearing grease into the hole and find a round shaft that just fits the hole hammer the shaft keep packing the grease in it as needed and it will push it out.

"spigot bush" = Australian for "pilot bushing"

Fosters = Australian for "beer". MMMMmmmm, beer. Could use a cold one right now.

no australian for watered down cat p**s

but yes, pack it with grease and insert something into the hole and hit with hammer
From experience it doesnt need to be 100% same size, a little loose will work too

I ran this idea by my friend whos a car guy (well, Mopar, so not really) and he suggested using wet toilet paper instead of grease to avoid getting covered when it finally comes loose. Even if it doesn't work, I'm gonna try it just to say I did. I turned down a piece of stainless .750 bar stock to about .635, .005 less than the diameter of the bushing. Should be able to try it out tomorrow afternoon, as I get home from work at 11:30 pm and don't think the neighbors would appreciate the noise. I'll let you know how it goes...
