Hello again!
I've run into another fun situation on my '63 Merc project. I dropped the tranny pan and found a bunch of nice metal confetti. I'm assuming this means the tranny is shot.

Is there another transmission that would bolt in as a replacement for the Mercomatic?

Y-Block.com offers a 223 to T5 housing (so it's not quite bolt on) and probably have to alter your drive shaft.

It'll definately cost you more than buying a working 3 speed, but you'll benefit in the short run (more fun) and long run (better mpg).

Thanks for the tip! I talked to John this afternoon, and he's going to fix me up with a kit to put a C4 behind my 223. It'll take a little monkeying about, but the best part is that aside from the driveshaft mod, it's a bolt-in project; makes it easier if I ever want to go stock again.

Has anybody bought the T-5 adaptor plate from YBlock.com?
Why wouldn't it work in a truck instead of the altered bellhousing?
(The plate is WAY cheaper than the altered bellhousing)
Just wondering.....TwoBit

well, from what I have found out is that the trans-bellhousing bolt pattern is the old ford bolt pattern. Now from what i am told the adapter plate uses the "toploader" bolt pattern but not sure if they are the same. Also, the truck bellhousing is thicker, in the trans-bellhousing area, than the car. Now from the research I have done, there is a comapny that has extened or longer input shafts for the mustang T5 trans. Dont remember the company name but i think it was modern Driveline but dont quote me on it. The same company also has the ability to move the shift on the trans so it'll clear the seat if my memory serves me correctly. I hope this helps you out. If you end up using the adpater let me know how it goes. I am wondering the same thing but no resources to find out.lol.(money).good luck hope this helps.
