Hi George Just checking out your motor build up.. i like your approach and sense of humor. Your motors first breath truly gives me reason to keep on trying.
Regards Daniel
i love this car George, hehe its an inspiration and cant wait to get my boosted xflow into the XA. i just cant belive how long your motor has lived and is basically stock bottom end! how many pound u got going into it?
As long as you keep the revs under 5300 and no pinging, shill last forever.
I changed valve spring a couple of weeks ago to Crow doubles. The seat pressure is around 155 pounds..I was told not to use them as it is too high..did I listen? No.
I put them in and raced it 20 times at heatcote including some sillly street driving without problems..Time will tell if it last.
well way im thinking, if u running 15-17psi with those revs and tune, even tho the xa will be manual im thinkin i should get at least a high 12 outta her with the stock bottom end motor! im excited...... oh yes.... i cant wait!
I've really gotta get my turbo bolted on too!
Its Georges car that originally inspired me to turbo my cortina!
Parts are still sitting in my room waiting to go on...
I constructed a new 14 liter inlet manifold with bellmouths.
The power is now sensational, and it loves to rev over 5000rpm.
So, last week I drove it to Calder for a quick couple of squirts to see how it goes.....BUT...
After putting on the slicks, I did a couple of stallups in the pits just to make sure all is ok when sudenly....No gears!!!
The bloody donkey decided to snap the input shaft to the auto...
Oh well, hopfully will race in the next couple of weeks.
Yeah, I got the input shaft replaced and while I was at it, I got a dominator convertor instead of the cheap B&M that I was using. The idea was that the new convertor would stall to around 3000 - 3500 RPM.
ANYWAY - After receiving the overpriced dominator eliminator and installing it, I was horified to find that the motor now stalls to 4600RPM!!
This has been the worst purchase of my life - and it is the only so called quality part that i have purchased....I will now get a refund and take my business to people who wish to listen to the customer and not think they know everything!!.
