Ok, I have the opportunity to get a T04E T3/T4 hybrid turbo from a guy locally. It is a cheap ebay turbo so I know what I am getting into. It has never been installed and he just bought it for the downpipe. I do not expect it to last long at all. I just need an excuse to go ahead and get the other things I need to turbo the 300 in my truck now. Here are the specs for it:

Compressor:
Intake: 3"
Exhaust: 2"
Inducer 50.8mm
Exducer 67.3mm
Trim .57
A/R .50
Turbine: T3
Inducer:?
Exducer:55.6mm
Trim:?
A/R: .63

I can get it for about $200 or less. I do not drive the truck daily as i have 2 toyota mr2's for that (1 being a JDM 20v engine and one being turbo itself). I just want something to play with for now. I am about to take the current engine out anyways and rebuild it. In the meantime I have an efi engine out of a 96 f-150 that I am putting in with my carb, intake, and stuff. I know that the turbo is a little small for this engine but I just want to se ehow this engine responds to boost.

I am going to leave the carb on it for now and build a "boost box" around it. But how can I seal off the throttle cable also? That seems to be my biggest issue.

I would just blow through with a bonnet. much easier.

but I think that the t3 exhaust housing might be a bit small for ya. def will need an external wastegate of big size for tha little housing to get enough gases bypassed.

Or should I just save up my money and get a decent sized turbo that I know will do what I want? And what is a decent sized turbo for these monster engines? (I say monster becasue I come from the dark side... imports. :) )

I woudl definately consider a larger turbo and a name brand at least. I have heard 1 story about somones coming apart locally and you would probably run into all the problems Im having now with wanting more boost!!!! but my turbo is too small and doesnt even like then 8-9 that its running now the engine doesnt like to pull very much top end wise... just my 2 cents.

1) that turbo will run out of air around 3500-4000 rpms.
I agree you will definitely need something bigger.

The quality on the chinese turbos has been skyrocketing. They know their sales would die off if they didn't do something about it.
It is no longer a joke like it once was.

If you want a cheap ebay turbo, get one of the "fake" t70's that have the 61mm inducer.

So something like a 40mm wastegate is needed. Hmm.... this gets me to thinking. What would be a realistic amount of boost on a 8:1 compression carb engine that is running EFI induction and supporting mods for the turbo? I do plan to run the hyperurtetic (sp?) pistsons or some decent forged ones. I think that 1 bar (~14.7psi) should be all I would want to run. I know I will need an intercooler at that point but that is no biggie.

I found this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TURB...tegoryZ33742QQihZ005QQitemZ150039620702QQrdZ1 but I have not heard great things about that company from people on the mr2 board. But then again they do push a lot toward the "name brand" stuff. But this is coming from a toyota quality group..... so yeah. Like I said I just want boost. :)

So the 40mm wastegate should be sufficient? I was thinking that that big of a turbo would need a 46mm or larger. have only dealt with turbo's on stuff like my 2.0L toyota so I am kinda new to the bigger stuff. :)
