Looking for info on putting a turbo on my 250 inline. Parts availability, cost, go factor, changes to stock engine to accept turbo etc. etc. Any info appreciated.

The biggest step is to define a budget and set some goals.

A turbo from a 3.8 Buick is a possible starting point if you are trying to do this for very little money.

.

I'm completely ignorant when it comes to turbos !! What kind of performance can I expect from the turbo six versus say... a 351w ??
I know my 351w is putting down 285 at the rear wheels. Is this feasable with a six without having to get a second mortgage ??? I'm not looking to beat every V8 on the street but I would like to be able to hold my own. And then see the look on their face when they find out it's a six !!!

With a 250, possibly. But you want timeslips, not dyno sheets, right? Build for torque and the HP will be there.

My 200 was putting down near that to run 103 in the 1/4. I had VERY little money into it (read: "another turbo 200 nears completion" )

This was all through a 1 bbl carb!!

Yes, the looks are crazy when you lift the hood!

Darrell,
My wife's Falcon has run a best of 11.85@110 at 2785lbs. using a 250 with a 57mm TO4 turbo and a 350cfm carb.
It's very possible to beat up on a bunch of V8s with to much difficulty. Our combo is very streetable, and is making in the neighborhood of 350hp at the tires.
We've just recently stepped up to a Precision T64E turbo. She was running low 12's with only 13lbs. of boost so far with it. Can't wait to crank it up to the 17lbs. we were running before! :D

Will

Does10s,
Is it possible to get an itemized list of parts & accessories from you based on your set up ? Also maybe a ballpark $ amount ? The numbers on your wife's Falcon is more than I expected from these engines !!! I would be happy to accomplish 13's !! Another thought, my 250 is completely rebuilt, but it's stock. Can I add turbo without changing the internals ? There's only about 1500 miles on it, would hate to have to rebuild again !!
Thanks, Darrel

You have a 250, so you are already off to a good start!

My recipe:
1) Start with one used 200 with high milage, stock and untouched from valve cover to oil pan.
2) Build turbo installation
3) Modify carb, build good fuel system

Go run 13's.

It was almost that easy!

Two books you need to read
Turbochargers by Hugh MacInnes
Maximum Boost by Corky Bell

MacInnes' book is very out of date when it comes to specific hardware but it contains tons of good info about carb setups. Bell's book is contemporary in terms of both hardware and content, meaning the part numbers and charts are good but it is oriented heavily towards EFI systems.
