Turbo Oil Return

I'll see if I can get some pics of the motor I have torn down. There is a plug that goes all the way through, below the water jacket level, and just above the oil pan rail. I may have misquoted on the size, it's been a while since I looked at the damn thing.

Thats out of an '81.

That's what mine looks like too. The only plug I see is the pipe plug below and between #4 and #5 freeze plugs. Does it go through the block into the crankcase or is it a drain for the waterjacket?

SR,

I know I said I was going to be quiet now, but I can't help myself...

That's indeed a block drain. Although by the time a motor gets to be as "seasoned" as the one shown, the level of sediment is so high as to render it useless. Learned that as part of my core plug disaster last year...

What I was saying before, one should be able to tap a hole in the block just above the pan rail, right across from a main cap...

I have to wonder if mine is odd- It is also an 81, but it was rebuilt. Maybe this was something on the HD blocks, or industrial blocks?

When guys are converting non turbo blocks to run a turbo they simply dril a hole in side of block and tap it for the return line. I was saying be careful not to drill into a main bearing web and dont drill into an oil pan bolt hole. On inside of block you can just aim the tube down. Check for clearance with the crank.
