All Small Six Upside down fuel pump

Replacing bad electric fuel pump with a new mechanical fuel pump on my 66 200, the mounting boss on the block seems to be upside down, when I mount the pump in the correct orientation with the fitting facing up there is a gap at the op of the pump, looking at all the pumps online they all look the same. Am I missing an adapter plate or something?

Looks to me that someone opened up the hole upwards. It is very difficult to get the right pump that works, so much so that I would go electric and forget that mechanical crap.

Use the gasket mainly to get it oriented right, then match the pump to the gasket. Pay attention to the contact patch on the pump arm, make sure that side contacts the cam.
Just looking at the photo, I would say the pump is upside down

I think I found the correct one, the 387 is the one I originally got from cj pony parts for my engine, some one on the vintage mustang forum posted one for a 1980 so I looked that one up and if you look at the orientation of the mount face they are opposite, I ordered the one for the 1980, and gonna hope for the best

Early engines had the fuel pump cam that goes under the cam.
Later engines have the fuel pump cam oon top of the cam.
Pics of fuel pumps in correct orientation on engine block. Can see different lever angles for under or over.
