v6 heads on a 250

how about welding together two v6 heads together so you can have exaust
on one side and intake on the other for better breathing?

mabe the cliffords 260 cam willl fit in there
 
i guy i know has a buddy who is/was running a 250 I6 with 351 cleveland heads chopped up to fit the 250 and it ran pretty good from what im told how he did it and ran a cooling system i have no idea.

That must be a big hp gain though running those heads, i'll try to find out more if i can
 
how much should 351 heads cost in a junkyard,

I just need good heads, and the valves, springs,retainers, rockers, ect do not matter because I would just sand blast and hot tank it, and buy new valves.


any ideas on getting the cam in there?

should a 260 cam work or will I need bigger with those valves?
 
would a 3.8 head work? if so they are dirt cheap, allloy, very weldable. would make for an interesting combo.pretty simple to do to with AL being easier to machine (mill off two end then weld) does anyone have a 3.8 head laying around? I might have to go check at the parts store
 
V6 is perfect for me..

all I need is two solid heads with with bores similar to the 250 and room to drill wholes to mount it if the wholes are in the wrong spot, and most importantly that we should be able to fit a clifford cam in it.
 
who made the 3.8?

what vechiles was it in?

what years?

what is the BOre size?
 
Bore size is about 3.8", but bore spacing is 4.375". The bore spacing of the 250 is 4.08. The spacing from the pushrods to the rocker arm must sit exactly right, and the bolts in the head are different and wont work unless you do some TIG welding.

so say u use either v8 or v6 heads how are u going to run a cooling system? and how would u run the exhaust and intake? the exhaust u could maybe use the same header as u would on an inline but the intake will be on the opposite side of the engine correct? could u use the intake to the 240-300 for the 4 barrels?
 
Im my opinion your time is better spent hacking up a log head or trying to import a argi or oz 2v head. Even if your bore spacing is correct, you will still need to deal with valve train, exhaust and intake.

Again just my opinion, I'm not trying to inhibit innovation.

i agree with Mike but if you guys are willing to try im for it as well. i dont have enough time to work on my car now as it is thats y its not finished. keep us posted if you guys are going to try it.

What about the new Aussie 250 I-6 DOHC head??? Or am I smoking crack and don't know cause it's so good???
 
For a moment let's forget the why/why not. The big question is can it be done. Aussie DOHC head on our 250 block? What is the bore spacing, the width of the block, how welding will have to be done?
 
The swap wouldn't be easy. It's possible, but the front cover, water paths, and block width are way different. Bolt spacings are close, bore sapcings are exactly the same.

The only issue is rerouting the water supply to suit, and increasing the width from 5.625 to just shy of 7.5".

The 3.2, 3.9 and 4.0 OHC engines are just 250 engines with an OHC conversion. 3.2 and 3.9 OHC cranks interchanged between some earlier Oz 200 and 250 OHV engines.

The OHC block is 1/4" lower to make room for the cam.

It's not impossible, as the 1500 Kent OHV Cortina and Escort engines got a Raymond Mays DOHC head in 1965, and that was just a bolt-up on the stock OHV block. And a Cross flow conversion in 1968.
