vaccum advance unit shot?

when i suck on the vaccum hose running to the dist. vaccum advance unit, nothing happens....just like i am sucking, well, AIR!!

shouldn't there be some resistance inside the distributor?????

You have a hose connected to your distributor via diaphram. When you suck on that hose it should draw the diaphram away from the distributor and pull the connecting rod. When this happens, the plates in the distributor are being pulled by the connecting rod. If no movement is happening, you may have a bad diaphram.

What year car and what carb are you running? If your vac advance is shot you may want to upgrade the dizzy. While you could purchase a vac advance unit for your dizzy, chances are the dizzy is well worn. A rebuilt dizzy is not expensive and you now have the perfect opportunity to go mechanical only.
