vacuum advanced broke?

Ok well recently when i opened the hood on my falcon i noticed that the vacuum advance was backed out. At first i thought how thats impossible as its a metal line that is connected with the fuel line to the carb and it has a lip and bolt that hold it in.

But apparantly the lip has broken or something and it backed out, so i shoved it back in and there doesnt appear to be any running issues but i was wondering if this would affect my performance (seeing as how it backed out before i'd imagine that there must have been some major pressure and now it might just flow out).

So what are my options for fixing this? Also i suspect it is affecting my timing cause i hooked a timing light up to it and it doesnt move at all no matter what.

If its not moving at all you must have a Load O Mattic. THe load o's didnt use weights like most dizzys did it all worked off the vacuum through the magic of the SCV, you can read about it at the top of this section if you want to.

I think that line is just pretty much brake line. You may be able just to put a new flare (with the proper tool) on the end of the existing line. You could also replace the whole line with brake line or a repro pre bent piece from one of the mustang vendors. Or if you dont care about having the exact orignal, go to the store and buy a short hunk of brake line, cut it in two so you have an end to thread into the carb and dizzy, connect the two with a piece of standard vacuum line.

another option would be to put a brass compression fitting in its place, without the lip. You can get these at most hardware stores. These are the kind that have a round ferrule that gets crimped down as you tighten. You won't need a flare tool with this option. You will need to seal the threaded portion going into the vacuum advance (or carb, not sure where it backed out on you).
