Hey guys, I'm just wondering if you guys have had any experience with running a vacuum pump on a 250. I'm not really looking to run a full dry sump, just looking for the benefits of the vacuum pump itself. You guys got any ideas ??

Cheers,
Leee

8) assuming you are refering to using one for crankcase ventilation, dyno tests have shown you can gain as much as 25hp(in this case on a big block chevy that was well built). the theory behind that is that the reduced crankcase pressure didnt fight the pistons as much.

Yup, just looking to eliminate some of the parasitic power loss by creating a vacuum inside the engine. Anyone ever used one ?? :?:

hmm,, this has got me wondering...

i think i may look into this one some more :D

there has to be a small 12 volt vaccum pump from a pump shop some where, dump into a breather can... hmmmmm

*/wanders off muttering and wondering a cheap and reliable set up.

i'll get back to you guys.

cheers.joe.

8) try grabbing an engine driven vacuum pump from a ford 6.9 or 7.3 diesel. it only takes a couple of hp to drive it so that means you would have a net power gain. the more vacuum you can draw the better.

I remember that articale on the bb Chevy. The problem is that you can overdrive them so much thay you will suck oil out of the bearings  But a cheap way to do it is use a GM smog pump oon the suction side. If you need a high dollar one Moroso, Areospace and a few others make them.

What about using a alternator of a diesel engine that has the small vac pump on the back of the unit ? You would have to plumb in a small oil line
(maybe off the oil pressure switch line) to stop it seizing and a return line back into the rocker cover .Gives you more amps and a vac pump all in one.. :D .

cheers dave
