Valve guide question

Do all 170-200 sixes have replaceable valve guides?
They are available at least for '80 head but how about the older ones?

Thank in advance

Pete

Come on! Someone has to know the answer to a simple question  Or is there no rule for valve guides? When looking NAPA's catalog they are offering same guides for '66 and '80 but Rockauto is telling something else. Oh well..I think that I have to remove head to figure out.

Thanks

Pete

The motors were built with integral cast iron valve guides. These may be bored out and sleeved with cast iron sleeves, or thinwall bronze liners. Your real guidance is the diametral sizes, and length of the guides. Such parts are available from many aftermarket suppliers; a well-known one is K-line.

Does this help?

Thanks addo! It's a bit easier prepare beforehand and order necessary parts when you know what you need.

You should talk to your machinist and discuss guide selection with him. Your selection may be dictated by his tooling. That is unless you want to buy the tooling for guides, it's quite expensive.

Local machinist is familiar with K-line. He claimed that it's excellent price-and durabilitywise for cast iron heads without replaceable guides.

You're set! Saves you buying the reamer and other expensive parts Stubbsy mentioned. Make sure to use a spiral grooved liner on the exhaust.
