OK I got a set of valve stem seals for my 170 from AutoZone.Got them home and went to put them on and they seen to be WAY too big.The package says ford 144-170-200-250 inline 6 cylinder engines.Am I doing something wrong, are these the wrong ones or is that the way they are?

They are the black rubber "umbrella" ones.

HAY YA GREASE
As long as the center hole is the same size as you valve steams they well work. They are large around the out side so the well slid over the gides.

Your head could have been modified for pc type seals. Every head that comes through my shop gets converted to those. If the old seal looks nothing like the new one you might have a pc seal. pc seals some times have a metal band or spring around them and press fit onto the guide. Usually the guide is machined down to .500 inch from the stock .620-.640.

Hope this helps
