Hello, i see the term "tired engine" used in regards to engines and not to attempt to use a "tired engine" as the basis for your re-build. I would like to know what exactly a "tired engine" is and if a tired engine could be re-built thus no longer being tired. Just planning my engine re-build and want to make sure i have a handle on everything. What would someone look for to determine a tired engine. Thanks for all help. Mark

When I hear that I think of low compression and worn parts. Your engine will no longer be tired once rebuilt.

making informed decisions is so important at this stage. You'll find alot of help here. If you havn't oredered the handbook do so. It can save you a lot of money and frustration.

Tired engine is one that has been or is used..... a rebuild brings new life to it so it will have energy to scoot you around.

A tired engine is just one that needs a rebuild..

my engine was so tired...
how tired was it?
It was so tired, it snored loudly and kept the neighbors up...

too much caffine again

If you bought the engine used and and have no idea how many miles are on it but you have to scrape the old dirty oily crud off to read the serial numbers, your engine is tired. If it burns a quart of oil every 500 miles or sooner, it's tired. If the compression is under 100lb it's really tired. If it makes blue smoke when warmed up and going down the road it's just about dead  If you know for a fact that it has 200,000 miles, the compression is good, burns no oil and purrs like a kitten, I still wouldn't put a lot of stress on it with hot rod parts. High performance requires good, strong components, and there is really only one way to ensure that you have them. If there is any doubt, rebuild it.

When I think of a tired engine, the saying "Rode hard and put away wet" comes to mind

Just means a worn out engine.
