what kind of mpg should i be getting with a stang 200

hi i just rebuilt my 200 in my mustang about 150 miles ago the rear is a 2.83 and the tranny is a c4 the motor has a carter rbs with a NON load o matic dizzy. The motor seems to be getting about 14 in town could it be the motor is not broken in yet. The motor seems to be getting a little better and the plugs are burning right no smoke.What kind of mpg should i get.

My old '65 Mustang fastback used to get 18MPG city, 20 highway. My '83 2dr boxtop Fairmont only can muster 15 city and is totally a dog in acceleration. I guess 88HP isn't enough to push a Fairmont.

i was getting 22 -25 on the highway before the header..now it about 15-17...it just sounds so cool i keep gassin on it....

Best I ever got from my 1980 Mustang was right at 30mpg.

Stock engine and carb with dual out exhaust, no EGR, P215/60-HR14 tires and fresh alignment and properly inflated tires.

Believe it or not but a clean wash and wax also help.

I've been getting like 13 city. I don't see why a 3.3 litre engine couldn't do much better, especially if you aren't making much power! The mileage/horsepower ratio must be especially dreadful on these cars!

I'm getting 18-19 around town. I don't do enough highway driving to get an accurate estimate, but my best guess is about 20-21...

Looks like i'm not the only one with a 1980 mustang.....with a completely stock motor, just shy of a 100,000 miles, and 4 spd SROD I get about 25 mpg on the freeway going 70 mph, in town I drive like an idiot and get about 13 mpg. I was disappointed the first time I figured out what I was getting in town too. It doesn't help that I've got a 10 gallon tank so it feels like I'm always at the gas station.

I have a 1966 Stang, 200 built up a bit with Clifford stuff and a weber 36 that produces just around 118 HP at the wheels last dyno run. I have the T-5 conversion and right now I average just around 16.7 to 16.9 and then it shoots up dramatically to about 22-25 depending on terrain in 5th gear at 75 mph at about 1500rpm. Come to think of it, i'll update this in 2 weeks or so since I just retuned the car with new plugs, cap, rotor, clean air filter, and reset the timing to 7 degrees instead of the 10 i had it at before ( too much backfire, was ruining my awesome sound man!).

with a 1980 capri and a built c4, i would get about 13-15 in town, and 22 on the hwy, this was while running 3k rpm's doing 70 mph.


*note 10 degrees shouldn't make you backfire... maybe something else is causing it?

My 82 Cougar Wagon gets 19+ around town with all the Ca. smog equipment working.

The car is automatic and 3,200 lbs.

I have an 81 mustang with a stock engine, just over 90K miles. With the three speed auto I only get about 16 mpg in the city... in the summer. The one winter I had to drive it it dropped to about 10...

Just had my cyl head rebuilt and am dialing everything in,,right now I'm getting 22..MPG highway.. had gotten as high as 24 when I first got the car,,and am shooting for that,,,( engine/car sat for years under a grape fruit tree so I got lucky early on)

66 mustang, 200ci, pertronix dizzy add on, T5, dual exhausts. gets about 20-25 doin 75 in 5th gear.
