I need a temp sender to go in the back of the head that will run an after market gauge. I have a repro smiths temp gauge but I have had no luck finding a sensor to run it that has threads that fit the back of the head.

Hi, my set of Moon Gauges runs perfectly with the original Ford sender. Ford made two senders, one for mechanical gauges, and one for the dash light gauge. If you are trying a stock type sender, make sure it is for a gauge. Did you try the manufacturer for help? Good luck

That’s what I remember, temp sensors or pretty standard, it’s the oil pressure ones that are a little more complicated, full sweep, half sweep, electrical, mechanical…….😣
NAPA should have one 👍

This is the sender that was in the back of the head. I moved it to the thermostat housing so the dash will still work but I don’t have it hooked up yet. This one will not run the new gauge

Most aftermarket temp gauges I've put in came with multiple thread adapters for a mechanical temp sensor bulb. Electric gauge?

I've also done a set up with the stock dash gauge hooked to the rear sending unit, and put the aftermarket bulb sensor in the thermostat housing.

Hi, that is not an original Ford sender. It does not look like a replacement either. Good luck

I think it is, my 170 has the smaller sensor, this looks like the bigger one's on early 200's, but usually in the back of the head from factory instead of the thermostat housing.
