Where to mount fuel filter

Currently, I have my fuel filter mounted in-line between my carb and fuel pump but I have noticed on show 6's that they are mounted between the fuel tank and fuel pump. Is there any advantage to this?

cleaner install, harder to replace filter though. I wouldnt do so unless you replaced the fuel pump lines or cleaned them out as corrosion that might be in there would screw your carb up real fast.

I think on the 144's the filter was part of the fuel pump. Somewhere around the 200 they went to the filter mounted to the inlet of the carb. I left the stock one on the carb but installed a clear inline one before the pump just to see if there was any crud in the tank. So far no signs of crud so I will likely remove it next time there is a reason to be messing with it.

With mechanical diaphragm pumps it does not matter much where it is. Electric pumps can be a different story.

I don't think it really matters, however it makes sense to keep the crud out of the pump as well as the carb.

I run an electric pump mounted on my frame rail next to my steering box. My filter is located directly before it. This set-up has been running great for 40k over the last 7 years. I've only changed the filter once or twice that I remember, same pump, same carb.

I've got a see-through filter mounted right on the pump output, so I can see it. Mounting out of sight, before the pump, can theoretically increase you chance of fuel starvation at the wrong time (from crud or a weak pump).
