Which Rockers

I was wanting to know which type roller rockers to buy. They would be mounted on a stock 84DA engine. I'm wanting bolt on hassle free installation. Someone mentioned the none adjustable type. How do adjust or set up? Do I need stud mount? Which size stud and what ratio? I see these on ebay all the time. Should be good for freeing up the valve train a little. Any recommendations?
 
351C roller rockers. Look for forged alloy units or billeted heat-treated ones. Anodising (even clear) weakens them. Quite a few are vacuum die-cast and this is usually OK but the others are preferable.

There is a noted problem with rocker studs stripping out the head under non-standard valve train loadings; pre-emptive treatment with inserts may be advisable, see what the others have to say.

You could a set like mine
They are bolt on adjustable rockers from Yella terra P/N YT6018 but their not cheap at $927 a set

Is your valve cover alloy or pressed steel?
If its steel then you shouldn't have the clearance probs that I did
 
I have a painted black valve cover, but a $1000 bucks is a little more than I was wanting to go. I would like an aluminium cover, but I haven't seen one. As far as that goes, I haven't found of source for anything. I would love to find a vendor with HP parts that will ship to the states. Here's some rockers on ebay. There's about a hundred sets available on any given day.

I'm seeing sets like this for a buy it now price of $179.00.

Look anadised purple. You say these are weaker? 1:73 ratio.

They are also 1.73's with a 7/16th stud mount.

Here's a set for 3/8 studs at 1:6 ratio around $170 bucks.

They call these mid lift. Adjustable. 1:6 or 1:7 ratio, will work on Ford, buy it now $200 bucks

These are 7/16th inch pedistal mount, roller tip and have needle bearing fulcrums. Buy it now for $230 bucks.

There's a set of Yella Terra's on ebay for $75 bucks. They are for a chevy though. Point is, There's a ton to choose from that can be had for $200 bucks or less. When I go through my engine, it will basically be built up as a balanced stocker with my money spent on making it true. I'll then buy a few add on's such as, rockers, intake, carb and headers. With that in mind, which ratio will be best to use and which size stud is stock? Will I yank out the studs if I go with a little lift and stronger springs? Also if I buy a set that is adjustable, You're telling me they will clear my valve cover? With the available selection I prefer and will buy adjustable, I've run into adjustment problems before on a Pontiac, so unless there's a clearance problem. Anyway, Roller rockers are cheap and plentifull. I just need a few specifics. Thanks for everyones help on this.

All of these rockers will require machining of the rocker posts, New studs, guide plates and hardened push rods

So this means off with the head new gaskets get the head milled and machined for screw-in studs find and fit guide plates and hardened push rods

If you bust a head you get to have fun all over again

They may be priced cheaply but they require 3 times the amount work to fit
and by the time their on the engine you would have probly spent more than 1g anyway

That's what I'm needing to know. So, do the Yella Terra and Street Terra bolt on without the machine work. What'd you say,

Rocker posts- Is this the pedistal or boss that the rocker shaft bolts to?

Studs- What's the procedure? Do you mill the rocker posts off then drill and tap holes for the studs?

Guide plates- I'm not sure about how these come into play.

Push rods- I've seen new push rods that I think are hollow for extra oiling. This sounds good. What's your thought on these.

I think I'm beginning to see how these work and the differences in mounting the two different types. Thinking about them, I would think the shaft mount type would be a little better. I do see a set of these for sale at around $300. Is this what I'm looking for?

These look like none adjustable types with the shaft built in them. I think this is something like your talking about only they do not adjust like yours. These are 1.73 to 1's. Is this a good ratio and will it actually give me a little more lift. At what point do you want to start thinking about an adjustable rocker. Can the non adjustables be adjusted with shims? Can you mount these things and have them come up too tight?

Thanks for your help and insight on these. You've really help prevent me from taking a left turn I didn't want to take. Also, Did you sell your engine and tranny. Do you have any other parts you'd consider selling? I would like to pick up an intake manifold and headers from somewhere.

Yet more ??'s. I'm seeing a set from Yella Terra listed as:

These are P/N YT 6345's. How are these different than the 6018's. I'm not seeing the 6018's on the web site.
 
These are guide plates

They go between the head and the rockers and the pust rod sits in the cut out
They stop your stud mounted rockers from turning around, they are hard on push rods as they tend to rub on the guides

Some High quality guide plates have bronze bushes that the push rod slides through $$$$$$$$$$$
