why does it have to be welded?

i'm talking about the 2bbl direct mount
i can understand welding to add material to the head so that the adapter plate sits flush
but is there any reason you couldn't use an epoxy of some sort? JB Weld or something stronger?

If I did mine again, I would use 3M panel bonding adhesive to fill it in....JB weld would work also IMO.

The best gasket sealer to use between the adapter plates and gaskets is Permatex 2A item #80009

I've experimented with several different gasket adhesives and this one works the best!

woudl that 3M adhesive hold up to the heat cycling?

reason I ask is that I currently have my E0 head sitting on a bridgeport. I milled the stock boss off flat and started opening up the carb hole leaving about 1/4" along the edges for a gasket seal....but now I am wondering if I should maybe build up a little nickle rod bead along the sides so that I can really open it up more.

Doug, just to make sure we're on the same page, i'm asking about opening up a hole, then filling in the areas between the intake and the plate the carb is going to bolt to
you're saying that stuff will hold?

i wasn't that sure that JB Weld would hold up to that

If you cant have it welded just use the JB weld. I think the panel bonding adhesive should work but it would cost you around $150.00 by the time that you bought the gun and the adhesive   Sorry about that....I have all the stuff out in my shop and I keep forgetting how much the 3M stuff costs!

I've used JB weld on all sorts of things with no problems and the heat cycling shouldnt be a problem. The intake doesnt get very hot, its the carb bowl itself that gets hot hanging out over the header.

I'm currently working on somthing to fix that in the near future :D

ummm what do you mena by welded? I told my machinist what I was trying to do and I told him I wanted it planed so I could bolt a plate and mount the carb so he planed it down and I used a 20,000 roms air dremel and made the hole bigger and used jb weld aorund the edges to make sure there was enough to seal and I just used some gasket paper stuff and made a template outta the holley one. then I drilled and tapped 2 holes on the manifold and rane 2 bolts through a carb adapter and mounted it all up and it worked great so far... as of now everytihngs held up.
