Wrong Jet size?

My dad told me earlier that we might have the wrong size jet somewhere on the carb. The base mixture turn is 2 turns. I am running 4-6 turns. He told me that means one of our jets is too small. Do I have the wrong size jet?

Most carbs dont have adjustable main jets. The idle is what usually has the adjustment screw. Lots of things could cause the screw to be out further than usual. Are you having a problem? If not dont worry about it, if so whats the issue?

Are you going to tell us what carb you are dealing with?

And is there a symptom? Or does it just bother you that its not 'right'?

I dont know the details of that carb so others will have to tell you what to look for on the carb itself.

The last time I had that problem (idle screws all the way out) I also had a rough idle and what I thought was a bad starter. After ripping the carb apart 4 times over a 6 month period trading symptoms. I decided to mess with the timing and found that my dizzy was stuck and I was running way too much timing. After getting a working dizzy in I was able to turn the screws down to a normal setting and my idle was 'normal' for a old 70's car. I also noticed it was starting/ cranking normally. Must have been kicking back due to the advanced timing. When I first got the car running the timing and dizzy was fine but somewhere along the line the weights got stuck solid.
