Hey Guys,
I'm trying to figure out if i can just plug a GXL dash inplace of the standard dash and have it work,...

I know i need to replace the oil switch to a sender, but what about tha tacho???

Do i need the GXL loom???

The dash will plug into the loom, but i only got a 6cyl dash today and havent tested it yet, i think my loom is crook anyways...

thanks,
Cam

I recently put the GS dash in my car. make sure you get the behind dash loom. mine had 3 large plastic plugs with about 20 wires going into each.

The engine through firewall loom already contained the oil pressure sender and tacho wire.

I hope that makes sense.

Hey Dom,
Thanks for that,
I think from what i can find is that i will need to add a tacho wire to my currnet loom.

But i'm half chasing a new loom anyway as the one i have is pretty rat shit.

I was at work when i responded earlier. I was a bit rushed and didn't mention my car is an XB. The wrecker i bought the GS dash from threw in the dash loom. As i said, i pulled out the old dash loom and the new loom plugged straight in. I imagine the GXL dash has oil pressure voltmeter as well as tacho when you include the lights for these extra instuments its a lot of work to add extra wires. You also get the little bulb holders you will need for the new instruments.

I thought all the GXL's were V8's? I hate to bear bad news but a v8 tacho won't work accurately on a six. You can tell a 6 cyl tacho by the redline at about 4700 rpm.

Good luck, Dom.

Dont worry Dom,
I've got the 6cyl dash,
and yeah, the gxl did come in a 6, i've actually got a V8 dash too....

The dash only has the oil pressure guage and tacho as extra, no volt meter.

Hey Dom,
It works fine! without any extra wiring. all i needed to do was to change the wire at the coil onto the - pole, was on the positive.

Now i need a oil pressure sender, but at least this new dash seems to work with the oil switch.

VDO sender works accurately with mine. I tested it using the old VDO guage wired in series for a week. Aftermarket guages are good but they clutter everything up.
