...... I just hope I haven't got XPC so annoyed that he won't tell us more (and further MY education).

Well at risk of being branded "Provided he opens his mind and closes his mouth long enough", I certainly am not annoyed. It's refreshing to read posts with various procedures. I really only revisited the forum to post some pics on the steering mods to my early falcon, hoping it would help people. Then I noticed this section and thought it might be a lark.

Stubby I find measuring actual compression pressure is far more useful than estimating CR. Afterall CR figures are of very little use, except for rules of thumb. A gauge reading can easily be converted back into a CR ratio, so long as the advertised intake closing angle, rod length and stroke are known.

My non-response to the rest of this thread is intended to indicate my open mind and closed mouth (slinks off, tail between legs).

The math will probably go way over my head, but I am curious. How about you start another thread and teach these old dogs this new trick.
I suspect it has something to do with the ramaining stroke when the valve actualy closes and static compression ratio = cranking comp. This does sound like another hardcore discussion. 8)

Mate you can't be that much older than me...surely. How about I post an explanation and we go from there. I'm sure there will be a few who will find it useful, while others pooh pooh it.
