It is more about keeping the impeller speed below max rpm.
If the max impeller speed is 38,000 rpm? and the engine rpm limit is 6500 rpm
38000/(6500 X 4.4) = a pulley drive ratio of 1.33
That is the most the supercharger will do and will be under 15lbs of pressure.
The friction ball drive was designed to operate at 7 lbs and it is not recommended running it at pressure levels much beyond.
Head porting and larger cam will increase engine VE at higher rpm which will lower supercharger pressure.
