Finally getting around to rebuilding a large log for my 200. I've been scheming with Bill (WSA11) and do have a pretty mild crane cam 265/275 intake exhaust at 194/202 duration. Milling for 9.5:1 compression (.070 off) and backcutting the valves. probably leaving the stock 250 valve size. What I do need are some valve springs that will work for this thing. Who can point me in the right direction? thanks!

A 9.5 compression ratio with that cam will need a high octane pump gas.
How did you decide on a 9.5 compression ratio?

Selecting the Proper Valve Springs

Premium gas is fine. We have 93 around here. Always surprised how many people are wary of "high" compression.cam.jpg

The closest I can get is by using the
Comp 903 valves springs and using the PAC L8149 keepers to move the retainer up .050”.

At an installed height of 1.675”, the seat pressure will be 87 lbs.
They are specifying a spring rate of 271 lbs/in
The Comp 903 springs have a rate of 293 lbs/in.
The Comp 903 springs fit the stock retainers.

You will still need to measure the present retainer height to verify the installed spring height.

Well this certainly seems like a bust
Why is this a bust?
I thought it was a very good solution.

Here's what I'm asking you to measure;
If your head has the same retainer height as the 250 head in the picture, then the Comp 903 spring and Pac + .050" retainer will give you the "spot on" spring pressure shown on the cam sheet.
