226 Rebuild No oil pressure

Hi all,
I am in the process of getting ready to start my 226 I finished a rebuild on. I turned the engine over with the starter but am not building oil pressure, even after 30 sec or so. I pulled the plate off my oil pump and there is oil in there but no signs of it in my mechanical gauge (clear tubing). Any thoughts? I have all my ports plugged so am scratching my head here. Do you need to prime these oil systems in advance to build pressure?

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam, yes its the best practice that you always prime a brand new engine build. It would be good to fill the Oil Filter Canister mostly up with some Oil too that should also help the engine to Prime itself faster. Your 226 detailing looks very good, best of luck

Sam, if you have to crank it over while waiting for OP, do it with the spark plugs out so that there is minimum pressure on the crank bearings. It will crank over faster too. Nice looking engine! I'm a flat-head fan, my wife's daily commuter is powered by one.
Best of luck.
